CVC Thermoset Specialties develops high-performance specialty chemicals and additives to support a diverse range of composite applications. There is increasing demand for lighter weight composite materials in many industries, particularly automotive and aerospace. Manufacturers are requiring higher glass transition temperatures (Tg) to ensure structural stability and toughness despite high pressures, corrosive materials, severe vibration and extreme temperatures.

Many high performance composite applications also require improved durability and flexibility, as well as increased wet strength, internal bond strength and resistance to oil, grease and heat. For example, public utilities and oil & gas companies are asking for epoxy/fiber composites that can cure fast enough to patch and repair pipes in situ, yet strong enough to resist corrosion and wear.

Multifunctional epoxies like EPALLOY® cure fast with a high Tg while maintaining their processability. CVC tougheners provide excellent delaminate adhesions, enabling composite systems to last longer in harsh environments. EPALLOY 7200 resins and OMICURE® urea accelerators help epoxy formulations react faster in the mold, enabling composite parts to cure and be demolded faster. These accelerators are also used to improve the storage life of prepegs, which reduces waste.

And NYCHEM® nitrile latexes can serve as a binder for papers, nonwovens, and composite materials. When used in durable and abrasive paper backings and nonwoven materials these latexes deliver flexibility, durability, wet strength, oil/grease resistance, internal bond strength, and abrasion resistance. They can also be blended with thermoset resins like phenolic and urea formaldehyde to improve toughness in binder systems.
